A beloved ice cream shop in southern Indiana is entering a period of transition. Widow’s Walk Ice Creamery in Clarksville is officially looking for a new owner, according to a social media announcement from current owner Jill Dodson, who described the decision as “the end of my era” after more than a decade at the helm. In a video posted Saturday on YouTube, Dodson said she is searching for the right buyer to continue the legacy of the shop, which has been serving customers for nearly 27 years. Why Dodson is walking away from Widow’s “But the time has come, to pass the torch, to another lucky soul; to continue the legacy of Widow’s, and another dream to behold,” Dodson said. Dodson has owned Widow’s Walk Ice Creamery for the past 10 years, overseeing the shop through steady seasons and unexpected challenges. She noted that she initially planned to sell the business in 2023, but those plans were put on hold when the Town of Clarksville announced a major road construction project directly in front of the shop. Not wanting to saddle a new owner with the disruption, Dodson said she chose to delay the sale. The construction ultimately forced Widow’s Walk to close for the entire 2024 season. “I didn’t want to pass that burden on to a new owner,” she said. After the closure, Dodson decided to reopen for one more season once construction impacts eased. That final season has now wrapped up, marking a milestone she said would not have been possible without loyal customers who stuck with the business through its ups and downs. “I am again at that point in my life… ready to retire,” Dodson wrote in her post. While the shop is now on the market, Dodson emphasized that she is in no rush and is focused on finding the right fit rather than a quick sale.
