INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita announced Monday that the state on Dec. 3 filed a lawsuit against the operators of approximately 50 pornographic websites, accusing them of violating the state’s age-verification law. Indiana’s age-verification law began in Augu st 2024 after a U.S. Supreme Court 6-3 ruling had allowed a similar law in Texas to stand. The Indiana government’s lawsuit, filed in Marion Superior Court 5 in Indianapolis, targets websites associated with a multinational pornographic conglomerate known as Aylo, alleging that they have deliberately exposed children to obscene and sexually explicit content. Popular websites in the Aylo portfolio include Pornhub, YouPorn, and RedTube. In a news release issued Monday, Rokita expressed concerns about the potential harms of adolescent exposure to pornography. The lawsuit claims that the content made available to children includes depictions of sexual violence, choking, rape fantasies, sex slavery, and sex with teen girls. In addition to the age-verification law, the lawsuit alleged violations of Indiana’s Deceptive Consumer Sales Act. This includes making false and misleading statements about the accessibility of the websites to Indiana residents and misleading consumers regarding the hosting of child sexual abuse material and nonconsensual material. Rokita and other officials have previously noted that many other adult industries — such as alcohol, gambling and tobacco — already employ age-verification technology.  ...read more read less
