The D.C. dining scene is often portrayed in TV shows and movies as an endless parade of steakhouses. While the city’s vibrant restaurant culture encapsulates so much more than that, it’s true that the Dis
trict is brimming with places to turn to for a T-bone or a tomahawk ribeye.
D.C.’s crowded cast of larger chains like Ocean Prime, Truluck’s, Ruth’s Chris, Mastro’s, Fleming’s, the Capital Grille, and STK offer consistent cuts, but this list largely focuses on original and smaller-scale steakhouses that have been around for a while. Sadly, one of D.C.’s best — Charlie Palmer Steak on Capitol Hill — closed for good last fall after a 22-year run.
Exciting new options are on the horizon, however, with Georgetown getting a new steakhouse from Bresca chef Ryan Ratino in 2026. Since this latest map refresh, we remove Charley Prime Foods (which recently switched gears to a seafood house).
