San Francisco filmmaker Kevin Epps on Monday was found not guilty of murder in the 2016 fatal shooting of a man inside his home. Epps was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter, marking an end to a nine-year court battle that started with the fatal shooting of Marcus D. Polk in October 2016 amids t a fight between the two. It was an emotional moment for Epps, his family and his community of supporters as he walked out of the courtroom Monday morning not long after the verdict was read. “I just want to get back to some normalcy; this has been just too long,” Epps said through tears outside the courtroom. “The burden of this in your life has been so long, it’s just been traumatizing.” Epps initially was released shortly after the shooting, but formal charges against him came three years later. According to court records, Polk had a criminal history that dated back to 1995, including lewd acts with a child, attempted robbery, domestic violence and auto theft.
