A woman is accused of intentionally setting fire to a rehabilitation center in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Margaret Curran, 40, of Honey Brook, Pennsylvania, is charged with causing catastrophe, arson, recklessly endangering another person and other offenses. On Friday, Dec. 12, 2025, shortl y before 4:30 a.m., police responded to the Green Meadows Rehabilitation Center on Lancaster Avenue in Paoli for a reported fire. Responding officers noticed heavy smoke coming from the third floor of the building. They then worked to get the facility’s residents – many of whom were bedridden – out of the building as firefighters brought the flames under control. Several employees were taken to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation while none of the residents were hurt. Officials said 15 of the facility’s 164 residents were displaced. One of the responding police officers spoke with a staff member who said that one of the residents — later identified as Curran — started the fire. Curran was detained and later interviewed by detectives. Curran allegedly alluded to starting the fire and admitted to having vapes and cigarettes in her room. Curran told investigators the blanket caught fire from a yellow lighter on her roommate’s bed, according to the criminal complaint. Curran also allegedly said she was the only person inside the room when the fire started and that she did it to “bring attention to a problem.” Curran was sent to Chester County Prison after being unable to post bail. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 22, 2025. Online court records don’t list an attorney who could speak on her behalf. ...read more read less
