WASHINGTON, D.C. (WOWO) Congresswoman Erin Houchin announced that three of her bipartisan online safety bills have advanced out of a key House subcommittee, marking a significant step toward strengthening federal protections for children on digital platforms. The AWARE Act, the SAFEBOTs Act and the Parents Over Platforms Act each address different aspects of online safety and technology oversight. The AWARE Act targets risks associated with AI chatbots that interact with minors, setting new requirements for transparency and safety protocols. The SAFEBOTs Act establishes clearer standards for digital disclosures so users—and parents—understand when they are interacting with automated systems. The Parents Over Platforms Act seeks to close loopholes that allow children to bypass minimum age requirements on social media and other online platforms. Houchin said the legislative package is intended to give parents stronger tools to monitor and manage their children’s online activity while holding technology companies responsible for maintaining safety standards. The bills will now move to the full committee for further consideration.
