Video shows hero bystander disarm gunman in Australia terror attack
Dec 14, 2025
An Australian man heroically disarmed one of the shooters during the terror attack on Sydney’s Bondi Beach, and his brave actions were captured by surveillance cameras.
The video shows an attacker holding a long gun in a parking lot and opening fire toward a crowd. Fifteen people were killed in th
e attack on a Chanukah celebration on Sunday night.
But the bystander, seen hiding between cars and behind the gunman’s back, sneaked up behind him and tackled him.
The man, identified by his cousin to 7News Australia as 43-year-old Ahmed al-Ahmed, wrestled the gun away from the attacker and pointed it at him, but did not fire.
Instead, al-Ahmed simply stood over the man with the weapon until he scrambled away. Al-Ahmed then laid the weapon against a nearby tree.
Al-Ahmed was wounded in the struggle, suffering gunshot wounds to his arm and hand, his family said. He was scheduled for surgery on Monday.
Al Ahmed’s family said he is a fruit shop owner and father of two who just happened to be in a tight spot and made a brave decision.
At least 15 people were killed in the attack. One of the gunmen was also killed, while the other was hospitalized in critical condition. Australian authorities have not publicly identified the shooters. They described the massacre as an antisemitic terrorist attack, which targeted Sunday night’s celebration of the first night of Chanukah.
“What we saw yesterday was an act of pure evil, an act of antisemitism, an act of terrorism on our shores in an iconic Australian location, Bondi Beach, that is associated with joy, associated with families gathering, associated with celebrations,” Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Monday. “It is forever tarnished by what has occurred.”
