$14.5 million raised for VeloSano, funding cancer research at Cleveland Clinic
Dec 14, 2025
A total of $14.5 million was raised in 2025 for VeloSano, the Cleveland Clinic’s movement to fund lifesaving cancer research, the health care system recently announced.
According to officials, the achievement was made possible through the collective efforts of the VeloSano community, including mor
e than 4,000 participants in the annual Bike to Cure and Trike and Bike signature events, as well as the 30,000-plus donors who made direct contributions or legacy gifts to the fund.
The total amount was announced in a video celebrating the dedication of everyone involved in VeloSano’s efforts throughout 2025.
Since its inception in 2014, more than $95 million has been raised for cancer research at the clinic and Cleveland Clinic Children’s.
VeloSano — Latin for “swift cure” — began with a weekend event and has evolved into an initiative that engages individuals, families, and organizations throughout the year.
“Cancer remains one of the most pressing health challenges of our time,” stated Dr. Alex Adjei, chief of the Cleveland Clinic’s Cancer Institute. “Now more than ever, research funding is essential to accelerate breakthroughs, improve treatments and move us closer to a cure.
“Support for VeloSano empowers Cleveland Clinic researchers to push the boundaries of scientific discovery and bring hope to patients and families.”
A portion of VeloSano funds is awarded through a competitive application process known as VeloSano Pilot Grants.
Since the initiative’s launch, more than 260 cancer research projects have been funded, and an additional $85 million has been secured from extramural grant sources, bringing the total impact to more than $180 million.
Additionally, officials noted, funding has supported clinical trials and the training of high school students, college students, and postdoctoral fellows “to ensure future generations continue the research to conquer cancer.”
This year, nearly 2,750 riders participated in the Bike to Cure weekend in September, while Trike and Bike mobilized children aged 3 to 10 to ride around the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo in July for pediatric cancer research.
Supported by longtime partners, including the Cleveland Guardians, the Kohl Fund, Jones Day, KeyBank, and Johnson Johnson, VeloSano’s momentum continues to grow, with events held regionally and internationally.
The 2026 VeloSano Bike to Cure Weekend is scheduled for Sept. 18 -19. Registration information will be available at velosano.org in early next year.
