RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is urging drivers across the commonwealth to exercise caution as crews work to treat wintery conditions. The winter weather advisory issued for Central Virginia on Sunday morning predicted slippery road conditions and reductio ns in visibility due to snowfall. Drivers were encouraged to slow down and use caution while traveling. According to VDOT, primary and secondary roads in the Fredericksburg region are in minor condition -- meaning patches of snow or slush accumulating on the road. "Road conditions may change quickly in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula this morning as precipitation arrives," a release from VDOT reads. "Postpone travel until after the storm has passed if possible. If driving, use caution by reducing speed and allowing extra travel time to avoid being rushed. Increase following distance between vehicles to add reaction time." According to VDOT, Sunday afternoon's forecasted gusting winds could lead to downed trees, tree limbs and debris in the road.
