A driver was killed in a solo-vehicle crash off Interstate 5 in San Ysidro Friday, the California Highway Patrol said. The crash occurred about 11:15 a.m. as the man driving a Toyota Corolla used the eastbound Via de San Ysidro on-ramp to merge onto northbound Interstate 5, the CHP said. For unknown reasons, the car veered to the right off the ramp and crashed into a tree, officials said. The driver was taken to a hospital, where he died. His name was not released pending notification of family. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
