(KRON) -- A 35-year-old man faces several charges after detectives said they recovered six vehicles, including trailers and classic car models, with altered vehicle identification numbers at his Vallejo home last month. Chop shop investigation leads to stolen cars and trailer at San Leandro home The Solano County Sheriff's Office said investigators and the Solano County Auto Theft Task Force served a search warrant at a home in the 100 block of Phoenix Circle on Nov. 25. SCSPO said the homeowner "refused to come to the door and after force was used to enter the residence it was determined that the suspect broke his cell phone and started a fire on his bedroom floor to destroy evidence. Detectives located and recovered six vehicles that had their Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) altered or switched in an apparent attempt to conceal their identity or stolen status." SCSO said the cars will be returned to their owners once it confirms the real VINs of the cars and that they were all in fact stolen. The unidentified suspect was booked into Solano County Jail for charges, including owning or operating a chop shop, destruction of evidence and altering a vehicle's identification number, according to SCSO. Despite an arrest, this remains an active investigation.
