*News release from Iredell County Sheriff’s Office: The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office is aware of a scam involving the use of the Sheriff’s Office youth athletic information. This flyer and post are NOT affiliated with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. We have been advised that this ty pe of scam happens frequently and is targeting vendors who are looking to set up at events. Scammers do their research, track when events are scheduled, and contact vendors in an attempt to collect money, preying on individuals because they know this is how they make a living. In this specific scam, individuals have been contacted by both email and phone calls, with scammers going to great lengths to make the interaction seem legitimate. Payment was requested through electronic payment apps such as PayPal, Zelle, or similar services. Requests for payment in this manner should be considered a red flag, as this is not a common or approved method in many cases. Please remember: • The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office will not solicit vendor fees or payments in this manner. • Do not click on suspicious links or respond to unsolicited messages requesting payment or personal information. • Be cautious of requests asking for payment via PayPal, Zelle, or other peer-to-peer payment services. • When in doubt, contact the event organizer directly before sending any money. If you believe you have been a victim of a scam, please contact the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit at 704-878-3180. ...read more read less
