The streets of Hampden and Medfield will be filled with holiday cheer, traffic, and possibly snow this Sunday for the 52nd annual Mayor’s Christmas Parade. The parade will kick off at 1 p.m., so get there early to snag a good viewing spot along the route. Near- or below-freezing tempera tures and a slight chance of snow are forecast for Baltimore on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service, so dress accordingly. Starting in Medfield near Poly/Western High Schools at Cold Spring Lane, the parade will proceed south on Falls Road into Hampden. Participants will turn left at 36th Street and march east. The parade will then make one final left turn to follow Chestnut Avenue north before ending near Hampden Elementary/Middle School. The DJ stage will be set up at Burgee-Henss-Seitz Funeral Home on Falls Road, and the judging stage will be stationed at Cotton Duck Title Co. on 36th Street. From 10 a.m. Sunday through the duration of the parade, the city will shut down Falls Road from Hillsdale Road to West 36th Street; Chestnut Avenue from West 36th Street to West 37th Street; and West 26th Street from Falls Road to Chestnut Avenue. The Falls Road exit (Exit 8) from the northbound Interstate-83 will also be closed. City officials advise travelers to instead use the Cold Spring Lane East exit (Exit 9A) and alternate routes along Cold Spring Lane to get to Hampden during the parade. The city will also institute parking restrictions starting at 7 a.m. Sunday on Falls Road from Cold Spring Lane to West 36th Street; West 36th Street from Falls Road to Chestnut Avenue; and Chestnut Avenue from West 36th Street to West 37th Street. Organizers emphasize there is no official event parking for the Christmas parade. “Plan to walk a bit,” they said. But they do recommend parking options at the Rotunda Parking Garage or the Academy for College and Career Exploration Parking Lot, both just a few blocks away from the parade route. ...read more read less
