Wayne County sheriff warns residents after car robbery RICHMOND, Ind. (WISH) — The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday issued a warning to residents after an woman described as elderly was robbed along a road on the west side of Richmond. A news release from the sheriff’s office d id not say what time woman encountered the robber near the 1200 block of Toschlog Road. That’s in the Toschlog housing addition north of Test Road. The woman was not identified in the release, and her age was not given. The woman was driving south on Toschlog Road when a black SUV pulled in front of her and activated its hazard lights. The SUV driver approached her vehicle, claiming she had a flat tire, and asked her to follow him to a nearby home to put air in the tire. Once there, the SUV driver pretended to assist before getting into the woman’s vehicle, claiming he was cold, and coerced her into giving him money. When she refused to give more, he forcibly took her purse and fled. The woman was not seriously injured during the robbery. The sheriff’s office says it has identified people of interest in the case and is actively progressing in the investigation, following leads and conducting interviews. No additional suspect information was being released as of Thursday afternoon. Residents were asked to exercise caution if approached by unknown people on local roads. The sheriff’s office recommended that motorists stay inside their vehicles with the doors locked, avoid following strangers to secondary locations, and call 911 if they feel unsafe or uncertain about the situation.
