Colorado Springs teen facing firstdegree murder charge enters into plea agreement
Dec 11, 2025
A Colorado Springs teenager accused of killing a 17-year-old in November 2024 entered into a plea agreement with the prosecution Thursday that dismisses the charge that would’ve likely put him behind bars for life.
Mykael Weathington, 19, was arrested Dec. 6, 2024, after allegedly shooting and
killing another teenage boy, whose name has not been released by law enforcement, near the 1900 block of South Chelton Road around 10:30 p.m. Nov. 26, 2024.
An arrest affidavit for Weathington obtained by The Gazette described how police believe that an argument over clothing that Weathington and the victim bought at The Citadel mall earlier that day led to the shooting.
Weathington initially faced five charges, including first- and second-degree murder, in connection with the shooting. In Colorado, a first-degree murder conviction comes with a life sentence.
In the homicide case, Weathington pleaded guilty to first-degree assault, two counts of a crime of violence, which are sentence enhancers, and manslaughter. The agreement stipulates a 10- to 16-year prison sentence on the assault charge, and Weathington is expected to receive 10 years behind bars for the manslaughter count.
In addition, Weathington has two other open criminal cases in which he also accepted plea agreements Thursday.
In another 2024 case, Weathington pleaded guilty to felony vehicular eluding, with a stipulated sentence of three years in prison. In a 2025 case, Weathington pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary, with an anticipated sentence of 10 years in the Department of Corrections.
The plea agreement outlines that all sentences shall run concurrently, or at the same time, as one another. Prosecutors will dismiss two other misdemeanor cases as part of the agreements.
As of Thursday, Weathington remains in El Paso County jail on a no-bond hold after a judge revoked bond during the hearing. Weathington appeared in custody for Thursday’s proceedings, dressed in orange and shackled at the ankles and wrists.
A handful of family members for the victim were in attendance, but none opted to speak at the hearing when given the chance.
Weathington’s sentencing is set for Feb. 12, 2026.
