Building on the successful launch of its pop-up holiday bookshop last week inside Mount Vernon Place Church, the Ivy Bookshop is hosting a series of free noontime concerts in the sanctuary of the church at 2 E. Mount Vernon Place. The series is noteworthy because it marks the first involveme nt of musicians from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University since the church was purchased last summer by UNITE Mount Vernon, a non-profit preservation group that is working to activate it with concerts and other public events. Supporters of the preservation effort say Peabody Institute is a logical user of the 900-seat sanctuary, since its campus is on same block as the historic church. The first noontime concert was scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 11, featuring Jonah Ahlers with the Peabody Baroque Ensemble. The schedule also includes: Dec. 12: Tommy Dupuis, Guitar. Dec. 13: Centre Street Quartet, a vocal chamber ensemble. Dec. 19: Ladies Out Loud, a vocal trio with Leah Wenger, Elisheva Pront and Marie Herrington. Dec. 20: Peabody student vocal ensembles. The Ivy Bookshop at Mt. Vernon opened on Dec. 4 and drew hundreds of visitors on the first day. It is open from noon to 6 p.m. every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday until Dec. 21. On Dec. 22 and Dec. 23, it will also be open from noon to 6 p.m., and on Dec. 24 it will be open from noon to 3 p.m. A nighttime holiday concert will be held in the church on Dec. 18, starting at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is free but donations are welcome. . ...read more read less
