ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO)  — Two serious crashes only hours apart left two men in life-threatening condition on Wednesday, prompting separate investigations by local law enforcement agencies. Crawford Road Crash Sends Driver to Hospital The first incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. on December 10, when deputies with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department and crews from the Northwest Fire District were called to a vehicle-versus-tree crash on Crawford Road, west of Tonkel Road. Responders found a tan Honda Accord off the south side of the roadway. According to preliminary findings, the car was traveling eastbound when, for reasons still unknown, it left the pavement and struck a tree. A 67-year-old male driver was pulled from the vehicle and rushed to Parkview Regional Medical Center in life-threatening condition. Investigators are still working to determine what caused the car to leave the roadway. Bicyclist Struck by Pickup at Bluffton and Winchester At 9:02 p.m., Fort Wayne Police were dispatched to the intersection of Bluffton Road and Winchester Road on a report that a bicyclist had been hit by a vehicle. Officers arrived to find an adult male bicyclist suffering critical injuries after being struck by a pickup truck. Investigators say the bicyclist had been traveling on Winchester Road, just southeast of the intersection, when the pickup—heading south on Bluffton Road—turned onto Winchester and hit him. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where his condition was downgraded to life-threatening. Police say the driver of the pickup, an adult male, remained on scene and cooperated with officers. Neither he nor his adult female passenger was injured. Investigations Ongoing The Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the Crawford Road crash, while the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Fatal Crash Team is leading the inquiry into the bicycle collision. FWPD units documented the scene with measurements and aerial imaging to determine the bicyclist’s exact path and any contributing factors.
