RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A 2024 study looked into the states where alcohol is the most and least popular, and Virginia falls within the top 15 states of alcohol spending per adult. The study from SmartAsset revealed that Americans spent $228 billion on alcohol for private consumption. Virginia ranke d 13th among states in per-person alcohol spending, at around $1,019. The alcohol spending was up 1.41% compared to 2023, and in total, around $6.7 billion was spent on alcohol. Alaska was ranked number one in the state that spends the most on alcohol, with around $1,250 spent on alcohol per person.
