Series of quakes rumble East Bay Monday
Dec 09, 2025
(KRON) -- A 3.7-magnitude earthquake jolted the East Bay Monday morning at 9:07 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake was one of a series of rumblings to begin the week near San Ramon.
The quakes’ epicenters were approximately 2.5 miles southeast of San Ramon, located on the Ca
laveras Fault. People reported feeling the shaking near San Ramon, Walnut Creek, Danville, Dublin, Pleasanton and Livermore according to USGS’s “Did You Feel It?” survey.
USGS has registered 11 minor quakes Monday, including:
2.9-magnitude at 2:33 a.m.
3.0-magnitude at 5:21 a.m.
2.7-magnitude at 5:37 a.m.
2.5-magnitude at 7:24 a.m.
2.6-magnitude at 9:05 a.m.
3.7-magnitude at 9:07 a.m.
2.9-magnitude at 10:06 a.m.
2.9-magnitude at 1:50 p.m.
2.6-magnitude at 1:59 p.m.
2.9-magnitude at 2:55 p.m.
2.5-magnitude at 10:23 p.m.
There were no initial reports of damage or injuries.
The cluster of quakes is the latest in a series that have been felt in the San Ramon Valley in recent months. Retired USGS Geologist David Schwartz told KRON4 in November that the quakes are the result of the earth moving west away from Mount Diablo and colliding with rocks moving north and south near the Calaveras Fault.
Due to the location of the quakes being away from a major fault line, it is unlikely that a quake stronger than a magnitude 5 would occur in this specific area, according to Schwartz.
