Phils extend Rob Thomson's contract through 2027

Rob Thomson is meeting with the media during the MLB Winter Meetings in Orlando 1:40 p.m. Watch below:
The Phillies have announced Rob Thomson will manage through the 2027 season.
The move comes less than two months after the club extended him into 2026 on Oct. 13, effectively adding a sec
ond guaranteed year to his deal and securing continuity in the dugout.
Thomson, 61, has led the Phillies to four straight postseason appearances, including two NL East titles and a National League pennant.
After taking over in June of 2022, his tenure began with a 65–46 turnaround in that pushed the club to the World Series.
The 2023 and 2024 teams each came fell in October – a win away from another Fall Classic appearance three seasons ago. In 2025, the Phillies won 96 games, claimed a second straight division title and were eliminated by the Dodgers in the NLDS.
Thomson is one of only four managers in MLB history to reach the postseason in each of his first four seasons.
The extension provides a sense of clarity, a point of emphasis for President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski during his end-of-season press conference. Thomson’s leadership style has been credited throughout the organization — particularly his stability in the clubhouse, communication with his players and a consistent approach over a 162-game schedule.
The skipper is still looking for his right-hand man.
Yesterday, Dave Dombrowski expressed that there was “mutual interest” between the club and Don Mattingly to become the Phils next bench coach.
Stay tuned.
