U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey drops reelection bid to run for Tarrant County Judge
Dec 08, 2025
At the last-minute ahead of the filing deadline, U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey, D-Fort Worth, says he’s not going to run for reelection in the U.S. House and will instead take on Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare.
Veasey’s campaign confirmed the information to NBC 5, and he’s listed among the three
Democratic candidates who filed for the county race, but his campaign has not yet issued a public statement.
O’Hare’s campaign, however, was quick to respond, saying there’s a clear contrast between Veasey and the incumbent.
“Tarrant County deserves results, not partisan politics. That’s why we welcome a clear contrast between Judge O’Hare’s record of delivering lower taxes, safer communities, and keeping his promises, and not Congressman Veasey’s 20-year radical Washington record,” said Nick Maddux, O’Hare campaign spokesman.
Veasey is joined in the Democratic primary by Tarrant County Precinct 2 Commissioner Alisa Simmons, who has clashed repeatedly with O’Hare on the commissioners court, and business owner Millennium Anton Woods, Jr.
Simmons did not run for reelection in Precinct 2 after she said the Republicans on the commissioners court silenced minorities through redistricting.
According to state records, O’Hare is uncontested in the Republican primary.
