(KRON) -- A man who allegedly tried to ignite a fire at a Saratoga winery on Saturday barricaded himself in his Tesla after fleeing and driving off an embankment, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. The suspected fire starter, later identified as 42-year-old Menlo Park resident Beri Vikram, was confronted by staff at Garrod Farms Estate Winery and Stables. Vikram threw a wine bottle at them before fleeing in his Tesla, the sheriff’s office said. Vikram intentionally crashed into two parked vehicles, according to deputies, before driving his Tesla off an embankment. Authorities said he refused to surrender and did not comply with de-escalation attempts. Pepperball and pepper spray were used by the sheriff’s office, forcing Vikram out of his vehicle and into custody. After hospitalization, authorities said he will be booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest. ...read more read less
