HAMILTON — The founder of an organization that impacts youth and young adults through the arts intends to expand operations into Trenton following reception of a state grant. The James R. Halsey Foundation of the Arts technically lists as a non-profit in Hamilton although most clients reside in Tr enton. Joseph Halsey, CEO of the organization that honors his father’s vision, promised a $475,475 grant from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority means inroads into the heart of the capital city. One day after state officials named grant recipients of the Activation, Revitalization, and Transformation (A.R.T.) program, Halsey announced expansion plans — a second location in Trenton. “This support (from the NJEDA) allows us to deepen our roots in Trenton and expand opportunities for the young people who call this city home,” said Halsey, founder and CEO. “Our youth deserve access, hope, and a platform to create change—and NJEDA’s partnership helps us continue building that path forward. This investment plays a critical role in broadening access to youth filmmaking and arts-based workforce development programs across the city. We are committed to growing throughout New Jersey and look forward to establishing additional JRH locations across the state.” The NJEDA recently awarded a total of $15 million in grant awards to 39 organizations under Phase II of the A.R.T. program. Halsey said establishing a dedicated Trenton site marks a significant milestone for JRH. The new location will reduce transportation challenges for young people who previously faced barriers traveling to the organization’s well-attended Hamilton facility. “With this expanded footprint, JRH will activate additional creative spaces, engage more Trenton teens in hands-on arts training, and strengthen community-centered initiatives that foster healing and contribute to safer, more vibrant neighborhoods,” Halsey added. ...read more read less
