A 27-year-old man died after he was mowed down in the Bronx by an out-of-control BMW whose driver then crashed into a telephone pole and fled on foot, authorities said Sunday night. Shariq Bryant was crossing E. 222nd St. near Boston Rd. in the middle of the block when a 2025 BMW M8 barreled into hi m just after midnight Saturday, police said. After striking Bryant, the BMW-driver crashed into a telephone pole, then jumped out of the totaled vehicle and fled on foot — leaving behind an injured 28-year-old passenger in the car, authorities said. Bryant sustained severe trauma to his body, police said. EMS rushed him to Jacobi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The BMW passenger, who was riding shotgun, sustained minor injuries and was not hospitalized. “Shariq was truly one of a kind—a warm, caring, and deeply loving soul whose presence made every room brighter,” reads a GoFundMe set up to help his family cover funeral costs. “He had a way of making people feel seen, valued, and supported.
