Solebury Township looking to add solar panels that make environmental and fiscal sense
Dec 07, 2025
Solebury Township may join the growing list of Bucks and Montgomery County government bodies agreeing to install solar panels on their buildings to “keep the taxes low” and contribute to “environmental sustainability.”
A nearly $560,000 plan sees panels on the public works building in the to
wnship complex on Sugan Road. Details were discussed at a recent supervisors’ meeting.
“It makes financial sense,” said Solebury Township Supervisor John Francis. “It makes environmental sense.”Added Supervisor Kevin Morrissey: “This technology has evolved at the same time as energy prices continue to increase. Because of this, solar panels make sense environmentally as well as financially.”
He said the plan meets two key requirements.
“I can support programs such as installation of these financially advantageous solar panels to help keep the township’s taxes low, as well as contribute to environmental sustainability. Installing solar panels to be environmentally as well as financially sustainable. Before us tonight, it seems we have that mix.”
Solebury is among several area government bodies to install solar panels. Other projects include a solar energy farm at the Lower Bucks Government Services Center in Bristol Township; panels installed this year on the administrative building and police station in Doylestown Borough, which expects to save one-third of its energy costs; a solar array built in West Rockhill Township to cover 100 percent of township energy needs, and Horsham Township in Montgomery County planning to install on the municipal building, police station, community center and public works building.
