Dec. 6 | Evening Forecast with Meteorologist Drew Narsutis
TONIGHT
Cloudy and very cold, lows in the upper teens, a north-northeast wind around 10 mph with gusts up to 20 mph. A few very light flurries or patches of drizzle may pass by mainly north of Indianapolis, but most spots just sta
y dry, cloudy, and bitter for any late evening or early morning travel.
TOMORROW
Partly sunny but still cold, highs near 30, a northeast wind around 5 to 10 mph becoming a light north northeast breeze in the afternoon. Single digit wind chills are possible around daybreak, then some sun helps a bit by midday, though it will still feel like the 20s for bus stops and errands.
TOMORROW NIGHT
Partly cloudy and quite cold, lows in the low 20s, calm wind becoming south southwest around 5 to 10 mph after midnight. It is a quiet night with good visibility, but another solid freeze, so watch any lingering damp spots that could refreeze.
TUESDAY
Partly sunny and milder than the last few days, highs in the low 40s, a southwest wind around 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 or 30 mph. The breeze adds a bit of a chill, yet the warmer air helps melt some of the leftover snow and ice during the afternoon.
TUESDAY NIGHT
Mostly cloudy with showers developing after about 1 a.m., lows in the upper 30s, a south southwest wind around 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Most of this looks like plain rain with temperatures above freezing, so expect wet roads for the Wednesday morning commute but little concern for ice.
WEDNESDAY
Rain and snow showers likely, especially through midday, then mostly cloudy and breezy, highs near 40, a west wind around 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Many spots see mainly rain at first, then a mix with or change to wet snow as colder air slides in, with light amounts and some slick spots possible on untreated surfaces.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT
Mostly cloudy and colder with a slight chance of lingering snow showers after midnight, lows in the mid 20s, a west northwest wind around 5 to 10 mph with occasional gusts up to 20 mph. Any snow will be brief and light, but another freeze could create patchy slick areas by early Thursday.
THURSDAY
Mostly cloudy and cold with a chance of snow showers, highs in the low 30s, a west wind around 5 to 10 mph. A few passing snow showers or bursts of flakes may reduce visibility for a time, but accumulations look light and spotty.
THURSDAY NIGHT
Mostly cloudy and very cold with a chance of snow showers mainly during the evening, lows near 20, a west northwest wind around 5 mph. Any lingering snow should stay light, but another hard freeze sets the stage for a colder stretch to end the week.
7 DAY FORECAST
Central Indiana stays locked in a cold December pattern with only brief breaks. After tonight’s bitter clouds, Monday is quiet but chilly, followed by a milder and breezy day Tuesday before the next system brings rain Tuesday night into Wednesday and a mix of rain and wet snow as colder air filters back in. Light snow showers Thursday and Thursday night keep the wintry feel going, and another push of colder air late week will likely drive lows down into the single digits with dangerous wind chills by Friday night and Saturday night. Confidence is high in the cold pattern and the Tuesday night through Thursday system, and growing for that late week blast of arctic air.
