David Carle’s team knows how to bounce back.
After suffering an overtime loss in a thrilling game against Minnesota last Saturday at Ball Arena, No. 6 Denver (11-5-1, 7-1-0 NCHC) rebounded with a weekend sweep over No. 19 Miami (Ohio) at Magness Arena.
It was another balanced effort all week
end as four different players scored in the 4-0 win on Friday and five different players scored in the 5-2 win on Saturday.
Freshman Kyle Chyzowski was the only player to score in both games, and his power play goal in the second game gave the Pioneers a 4-2 lead late in the third period that sealed the win.
Fellow freshman Brendan McMorrow scored a highlight-reel shorthanded goal that proved to be the game-winner Saturday night.
On Friday night, DU exploded for three second-period goals, capped off by junior defenseman Eric Pohlkamp’s team-leading 12th goal of the season.
Freshman goaltender Quentin Miller continued his strong start to his college career between the pipes, picking up a pair of wins to give him 10 on the season while stopping 45 shots across the two games.
The Pios remain atop the standings in the NCHC with the six-point weekend. They currently have 21 points from eight conference games and have a two-point advantage on rival North Dakota for the top spot.
Carle’s team has one final series in 2025 as they hit the road to face St. Cloud State for a pair of games next weekend. They return to Denver on Jan. 2 to begin a two-game nonconference series against Maine.
