There’s a stroke of genius at the heart of CNY Playhouse’s world premiere of “A Twilight Zone Christmas,” adapted by Jim Molloy from the groundbreaking TV series that blended science fiction, fantasy and horror. The sixties-era show was created by Rod Serling, who was born in Syracuse on Chr istmas Day 1924. Ninety-nine years later, in January 2024, as Molloy writes in his program notes, he decided that two specific episodes written by Serling and “set at Christmastime: ‘The Changing of the Guard’ and ‘Night of the Meek’...would comfortably adapt to the theatrical stage.” He obtained permission to do so from Serling’s daughters Jodi and Anne who generously suspended any licensing fees.
