It’s time for Basketball: Spurs at Cleveland Cavaliers

Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
The Spurs have played pretty w
ell in the absence of two of their best players, without Victor Wembanyama since November 14 against the Golden State Warriors, and without Stephon Castle since midway through the first game against the Grizzlies on November 16. It’s been less than a month, but somehow if feels a lot longer as a fan, but the Spurs have put up a 7-2 record with Wemby sitting out to rehab his calf strain, slightly better than the 8-4 record in the first 12 games with Victor in the lineup. Clearly, the big guy was holding back the team.
Tonight, they continue the seemingly endless road trip (broken up briefly with the Memphis game on Tuesday night) and face the Cavaliers, who had the best record in the Eastern Conference last year. Like the Spurs, they’ve had some injuries keeping top players out for much of the season, and Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen missing this game with toe and finger injuries, respectively. They have plenty of talent to still be a dangerous team with Donovan Mitchell on a scoring tear and Evan Mobley filling up the stat sheet on both ends of the court. They always play to a sold out arena, and it will be a hostile atmosphere for the young Spurs. Luke Kornet, who sealed the game for the Spurs on Wednesday with a spectacular block on Franz Wagner will be out tonight, so the Spurs will either have to play Bismack Biyombo tonight or play a lot of smallball with Jeremy Sochan tonight, both of which could be problematic against Mobley. Tonight will be a challenge for Harrison Barnes and Coach Mitch as they try to strategize a way to eke out a win in the cold environs of the Rocket Arena, which confusingly, is not in Houston. Let’s go Spurs!
Game Prediction:
Spida vs Swipa duel will be settled in favor of Swipa at the final buzzer.
