A man is in critical condition from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound following a incident that prompted police to issue a brief shelter-in-place order late Friday morning.
Colorado Springs Police Department spokesperson Caitlin Ford said in an email that officers responded to a shots-fire
d call near 5110 N. Academy Blvd. at 10:45 a.m. in northeast Colorado Springs. The incident began as a verbal altercation between the man and a woman but quickly escalated.
According to Gazette news partner KOAA, officers heard a gunshot when they arrived. After that, Ford said the man barricaded himself inside a vehicle, and officers saw what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A shelter-in-place order was issued for the area at noon and lifted 15 minutes later after Ford said officers were able to safely approach the vehicle and remove the man from it.
“As of right now, no arrest has been made, but our investigation into the situation is ongoing,” Ford said.
