The City of Chula Vista has appointed Deputy Fire Chief Christopher Manroe as fire chief, succeeding Harry Muns, who is retiring after nearly 30 years with the department. Manroe brings more than 27 years of fire service experience, including the last 17 years with the Chula Vista Fire Department. H e began his career in 1995 with the San Diego Rural Fire District before working at Del Mar Fire Department and La Mesa Fire Department, where he became a fire captain and licensed paramedic. In 2008, Manroe joined Chula Vista, returning to the firefighter rank to restart his career in the city. “Chula Vista has always felt like home,” Manroe said in a statement. “This community, this department, and the people we serve have shaped my life. I am honored to lead the men and women of the Chula Vista Fire Department and committed to making our service better every single day.” Manroe plans to focus on succession planning, recruitment, training and professional development, and wellness and mental health programs for department personnel. “Chief Manroe reflects all of the qualities the City of Chula Vista values,” City Manager Tiffany Allen said in a statement. “He knows our neighborhoods, understands our families, and has spent nearly two decades serving this community.” The city said Manroe’s appointment will be effective Dec. 31. “I am incredibly proud of what this department has accomplished,” Muns said in a statement. “Serving the City of Chula Vista has been one of the greatest honors of my life.” ...read more read less
