SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Congressman and gubernatorial candidate Eric Swalwell will hold a meet and greet in San Francisco Thursday evening on the heels of a new poll showing him leading the race on the Democratic side. The Democratic representative jumped into the race to succeed Gov. Gavin Newsom l ast month and, according to a new Emerson College Polling survey, has nudged former congresswoman Katie Porter out of the top spot with Democratic voters. Tesla driver in fatal San Ramon crash was going 150 mph, charged with murder Swalwell (D-Livermore) now enjoys 20% of support with Democratic voters to Porter's 17%, the poll indicates. The Democratic field remains split with former Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa at 8%, businessman Tom Steyer at 7%, and former Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra at 5%. On the Republican side, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Biano leads the field with 33% followed by television personality Steve Hilton at 30%.
