PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 64-year-old man who went missing after he was released from a Prince George County jail has been found dead, according to authorities. The morning of Thursday, Dec. 4, the Prince George Police Department issued a missing endangered persons alert for 64-year-old Victor Rankins. Rankins was last seen alive being released from Riverside Regional Jail, located at 500 Folar Trail, at 10 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1. As he was blind in his left eye and diagnosed with dementia, his disappearance was believed to pose a credible threat to his health and safety, per police. "The Prince George County Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the Rankins family and expresses sincere gratitude to the community and our partner agencies for their assistance in the search efforts," police said. Police said no further details on the circumstances of Rankins' death could be provided at this time. The investigation into this incident is ongoing. "The department will provide more information as it becomes available," police said. "We ask the media and the public to respect the family's privacy during this difficult time."
