Courtesy of Omaha Police.OMAHA–(KFOR Dec. 3)–Three Omaha Police officers were hurt and a suspect was killed after rounds of gunfire were exchanged inside a south Omaha gas station Wednesday afternoon — but not before a bystander was able to exit the scene. Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said the man who died at the scene was a suspect in a shooting at a Phil’s Foodway near 30th Street and Ames Avenue, in north Omaha. At that scene, a 61-year-old man was shot in the chest several times at about noon Wednesday. Authorities said the earlier shooting victim’s injuries were not life-threatening. Officers located the suspect’s vehicle and followed him to a QuikTrip at 32nd and L Street. The suspect entered the store’s men’s restroom. Officers ordered the man out of the restroom. When he emerged, he began firing at police, striking one officer. The suspect, identified as a 28-year-old man, retreated into the restroom, and a civilian bystander who was also in the restroom at the time managed to exit safely. Officers tactically repositioned themselves and again ordered the suspect out. The suspect came out firing a second time, injuring another officer. Officers returned fire, killing the suspect. A third officer was injured by shrapnel during the incident.  OPD says injuries to the officers are not life-threatening.   ...read more read less
