ENGLEWOOD – Broncos outside linebacker Jonah Elliss spent two straight nights earlier this week glued to the television. On Sunday night, Elliss, who was back in Denver resting a hamstring injury, watched with excitement as the Broncos held on to win 27-26 at Washington in overtime. Then on Mon day night, Elliss looked on as his brother, New England linebacker Christian Elliss, played a key role in the Patriots’ resounding 33-15 win over the New York Giants. Elliss won’t need to do much television watching in Week 14 of the NFL season. He will be back with the Broncos on Sunday at Las Vegas after missing two games with his injury, and the Patriots, battling the Broncos for the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoff race, are on their bye week. Elliss suffered a left hamstring injury when running down on a kickoff in Denver’s 10-7 win over the Raiders on Nov. 6. He missed the Broncos’ 22-19 win over Kansas City on Nov. 16 and the game against the Commanders, but was a full participant in practice Wednesday and Thursday. “I feel 100%,’’ Elliss told The Denver Gazette after Thursday’s practice at Broncos Park. “We took an extra week just to make sure I was 100%. The training staff is always looking after us. Now I feel super solid, and I’m ready to get back out there.” Elliss returned to practice last week on a limited basis and was listed as questionable last Friday for the game against the Commanders. But he was downgraded to out on Saturday and did not make the trip to Washington. “We’re communicating how it feels and it was just better (to not play),’’ Elliss said. “It’s a long season. You don’t want to go out there and reinjure it, so we just decided the best option was to wait one more week.” Elliss watched as Que Robinson filled in for him again as a top reserve, and he said he was “super proud” of the rookie. He was thrilled seeing outside linebacker Nik Bonitto bat down a Marcus Mariota pass on a 2-point conversion attempt on the final play, enabling the Broncos to survive. “I was jumping up and down and celebrating,’’ Elliss said. “It was awesome to see the guys go out there and perform. … It’s always weird watching it from home just because you don’t do it often. But it’s also fun because you’re watching everyone’s reaction that you usually don’t see in the game.’’ On Monday night, Elliss watched his brother against the Giants. Christian Elliss tied for the team lead with six tackles, and one was talked about plenty. In the first quarter, Christian belted Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart just before he went out of bounds. Although Giants players were upset and there was a scuffle on the sidelines, it was deemed a legal hit. Dart said after the game that he was fine with the hard hit. “He was just flying around playing the game,’’ Jonah said of Christian. “We go out there and we give it everything we’ve got. It’s a defensive play and you just go out and try to stop them from getting yards. … When we were younger, he was lowering that shoulder on us when we were kids. He’s always been a hard hitter.” Elliss, 22, has two brothers in the NFL in Christian, 26, and Atlanta linebacker Kaden Elliss, 30. Another brother, defensive lineman Noah Elliss, 26, played for Philadelphia from 2022-23. Christian’s Patriots are 11-2 and battling the 10-2 Broncos for the top seed. Jonah and Christian have been going back and forth plenty about that. “We’re talking trash all the time,’’ Jonah said. “It’s always fun. We go back and forth but I’m super proud of him and that team and how they’re rolling.” As a rookie last season, Jonah faced Kaden’s Falcons, and Denver won 38-6. He then bragged that he’s “1-0” against family members. The Broncos are scheduled to play at New England next season. But the teams could meet before then next month in the playoffs. ...read more read less
