A big-rig overturned and spilled sand across all lanes of northbound Highway 101 in South San Jose, snarling the Thursday morning commute. All freeway lanes were blocked between Blossom Hill Road and Hellyer Avenue, starting at about 3:45 a.m., after the truck overturned and spilled about 26 tons of sand, according to the California Highway Patrol. As of about 5:30 a.m., traffic was moving slowly past the scene on the left shoulder. It was unclear if any other vehicles were involved in the crash or if anyone was injured.
