ONONDAGA COUNTY – Only a couple of days into December, the Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool boys swim teams had their season-opening meets on the same Wednesday night with very different results. In the Northstars’ case, it faced Fulton at its “home” pool at Nottingham High School and han dled the Red Dragons 93-85, getting it going when the 200-yard medley team of Ryan Lasher, Leo Alexander, Brandon Keil and Lukyn Burak prevailed in one minute 46.02 seconds to Fulton’s 1:49.89. Alexander, a sophomore, then beat the field in the 200 individual medley in 2:05.79 and was victorious in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.01 while also pairing with Keil, Burak and eighth-grader Anthony Aloi to go 1:38.28 and win the 200 freestyle relay. On his own, Aloi went 1:57.87 to beat the field in the 200 freestyle and also pulled away in the 500 freestyle, winning in 5:10.65 more than half a minute clear of any challenger. Lasher won the 100 backstroke in 1:01.378. It helped C-NS to have the only two divers in the event, with Chris Koegel picking up 238.85 points to beat out the 232.70 earned by Nate Ornoski. Koegal added a second in the 100 backstroke (1:09.95) behind Lasher. Keil dominated the 100 butterfly, his time of 55.45 seconds the only one under 1:03 as he also went 22.88 to take second in the 50 freestyle to Logan Ames’ 22.28. Barak was second (58.31) and Sean Loughlin third (58.36) to Ames (50.28) in the 100 freestyle, but Loughlin would end the meet joining Lasher, Aloi and Logan Tyo for first in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:52.09. As for Liverpool, it went to Auburn and lost 92-65 to the Maroons, who claimed all three relays including a 200 freestyle relay where Brayden Wilson, Quin Didio, Lukas Jensen and Logan Hall won in 1:37.66. Joe Lisi still won twice for the Legends, his time of 1:57.93 topping the field in the 200 freestyle before he won the 100 breaststroke with a clocking of 1:06.76. James Hayden went 56.34 seconds to pull away for first place in the 100 butterfly and then roared to a top time of 1:01.23 in the 100 backstroke. C-NS meets Weedsport/Skaneateles next Tuesday at Nottingham just as Liverpool has its home opener against Oswego. ...read more read less
