WAYNESBORO, Va. (WRIC) -- An Afghan national was arrested in Virginia after the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) accused him of providing support to a terrorist group. Jaan Shah Safi was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Waynesboro on Wednesday, Dec. 3. Acco rding to a release from the DHS, Safi is accused of providing support to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria-Khorasan (ISIS-K). "He also provided weapons to his father who is a commander of a militia group in Afghanistan," the release reads. According to the DHS release, Safi entered the United States through Philadelphia on Sept. 8, 2021, as part of Operation Allies Welcome -- a program that brought in 76,000 Afghans during the U.S.'s chaotic withdrawal from the country that was started by Trump and overseen by Biden.
