May 06, 2024
FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) -Today, Kentucky cattle producers stood alongside Commissioner of Agriculture Jonathan Shell as he officially declared the month of May as “Kentucky Beef Month.” The proclamation signing took place at 11 a.m. at Capital City Christian Church, where Commissioner Shell emphasized the significant role of beef in the Bluegrass State’s agricultural landscape.
“We’re a beef cattle state,” Commissioner Shell affirmed. “With over 900,000 head of cattle here in the state of Kentucky on the beef cattle side, it’s one of our largest commodities that we deal with and every farm in the state of Kentucky almost has cattle on it.”
The statistics speak volumes about Kentucky’s beef industry. According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, the state boasts over 31,000 beef cattle producers out of the total 69,400 farms statewide. This underscores the vital contribution of beef production to Kentucky’s agricultural economy and its status as a cornerstone industry within the state.
